A leaf is part of a document, book, pamphlet, or similar work; either or both sides of the leaf may be blank. A leaf is composed of two pages, one on either side. A sheet folded in half has two leaves, or four pages, and is called a folio. A sheet folded in half twice has four leafs, or eight pages, and is called a quarto. Leafs are numbered individually, with the front and back distinguished as recto (front) and verso (back).
